Magoffin County seeks late-season home game

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is seeking a late-season home game for its next gridiron campaign.

The Hornets have the week of Friday, Oct. 31 open in the 2024 high school football season. Currently, Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett is working to schedule a game for the open date.

Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. Beginning in the 2025 high school football season, Class 3A, District 8 will be comprised of Magoffin County, Estill County, Lawrence County, Letcher County Central and Powell County.

Magoffin County won its final game in the 2024 high school football season. The Hornets pulled away to defeat rival Morgan County 41-18 on Friday, Nov. 1.

Magoffin County averaged 22 points per game in the 2024 high school football season. In addition to defeating Morgan County, Magoffin County notched a win over Lewis County.

Magoffin County will finalize and release its 2025 schedule later in the offseason.
