Lady Hornets sting Buckhorn

SALYERSVILLE — Winning its opening game in the new year, Magoffin County pulled away to beat Buckhorn 76-21 on Saturday, Jan. 4.

With the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-8.

The Lady Hornets excelled offensively and defensively.

Magoffin County shot 52.5 percent (32-of-61) from the field. The Lady Hornets made three of 15 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County shot 75.0 percent (nine-of-12) from the free throw line.

Bella Trusty scored a game-high 34 points for the Lady Hornets.

Trusty connected on 15 of 20 two-point field goal attempts.

Macy Williams followed Trusty in Magoffin County’s scoring column, netting 17 points.

Accompanying Trusty and Williams in double figures for Magoffin County, Abby Barnett scored 14 points.

Narrowly missing double figures for Magoffin County, Emily Sluss netted nine points.

Chipping in offensively for Magoffin County, Maddie Salyer added two points.

Barnett and Abigail Bradley combined to pace Magoffin County inside, securing nine rebounds apiece.

Defensively, Magoffin County limited Buckhorn’s shot attempts throughout the game.

Greenlee Deaton (six points), Molly Mullins (five points), Ashlynn Adams (four points), Lyla Wooten (four points) and Kylie Ashley (two points) each scored for Buckhorn during the matchup.

Magoffin County beat Buckhorn for the second time in the 2024-25 girls’ high school basketball season.
