PRESTONSBURG — Magoffin County reached the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament.
Pike County Central topped Magoffin County 7-3 in eight innings in the semifinals of the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament at StoneCrest on Friday, April 11.
The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the 2A, Section 8 Baseball Tournament.
Thriving late in the game, Pike County Central scored four runs in the top half of the eighth inning.
Caleb Compton and Trevor Holbrook split time on the mound for the Hawks. Holbrook pitched six and two-thirds innings in relief for Pike County Central, recording 10 strikeouts. During his pitching outing, which spanned one and one-third innings, Compton posted three strikeouts.
Isaac Howard pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief for Magoffin County and suffered the loss. Howard struck out one Pike County Central batter.
Hunter Arnett started on the mound for Magoffin County and pitched five and one-third innings. Howard recorded five strikeouts.
Pike County Central plated seven runs on seven hits. Holbrook (one RBI), Jonah Hicks (two hits, three RBIs), Kaden Crum (two hits, one RBI), Luka Varney (two hits, one RBI) and Brody Coleman (one hit) each delivered at the plate for the Hawks. As part of Pike County Central’s winning effort, Hicks tripled, and Varney doubled.
Magoffin County plated three runs on six hits. Parker Bowling (three hits, one RBI), Brayden Bailey (two hits) and Gavin Arnett (one hit) each produced offensively for the Hornets. Howard, Arnett and Evan Reed scored one run apiece for Magoffin County in the tournament game.
