Barnett among state’s top scorers

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County senior guard Aden Barnett is among the state’s top scorers in boys’ high school basketball.

Earlier in the month, Barnett was ranked second in scoring in the state.

Through 22 games in the 2023-24 boys’ high school basketball season, Barnett was averaging 29.8 points per game. He was shooting 56.5 percent from the field, 31.7 percent from three-point range and 84.1 percent from the free throw line. In addition, Barnett was averaging 5.8 rebounds per game.

Barnett has scored over 3,000 points in his high school career. He is Magoffin County’s all-time leading scorer.

A multi-sport athlete, Barnett excels athletically and academically. Barnett has a 4.0 GPA.

The Magoffin County senior is one of the state’s top high school student-athletes and remains uncommitted as he continues to consider different colleges.

Back on the court, Barnett is a candidate for 15th Region Boys’ Basketball Player of the Year.

Barnett is set to lead Magoffin County in the boys’ high school basketball postseason. Magoffin County is slated to meet Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Martin County High School in Inez at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 27
