SALYERSVILLE – Ranking among the state’s top boys’ high school basketball players during his sophomore season, Magoffin County guard Aden Barnett averaged 23 points per game.
Barnett scored 553 points in 24 games for the Hornets during the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.
Ranking as Magoffin County’s second-leading rebounder, Barnett averaged 5.3 rebounds per game for the Hornets.
Barnett is poised to be one of the state’s top junior boys’ basketball players in the 2021-22 season.
Senior guard Isaiah Salyer ranked second in scoring for the Hornets, averaging 9.9 points per game. Salyer scored 237 points in 24 games.
Ranking third in scoring for the Hornets, sophomore Ben Lafferty averaged 9.1 points per game for the Hornets. Lafferty led the Hornets in rebounding, averaging 6.2 rebounds per game.
Freshman Grayson Whitaker finished fourth in scoring for Magoffin County, averaging 8.1 points per game.
As a team, Magoffin County shot 45.2 percent (548-of-1,212) from the field. The Hornets shot 30.4 percent (113-of-372) from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 72 percent (288-of-400) from 3-point range.
A member of the 57th District, Magoffin County averaged 24.6 rebounds per game during the 2020-21 season.
The Hornets exited the 2020-21 season 12-12 following a loss to Paintsville in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament Semifinals.
The Magoffin County boys’ basketball program will finalize and release its schedule for the 2021-22 season at a later date.
