Barnett, Lafferty tabbed Class 3A, District 8 Players to Watch

SALYERSVILLE — Junior athlete Aden Barnett and senior linebacker/defensive end/running back/tight end Ben Lafferty represent Magoffin County on the Preseason 3A, District 8 Players to Watch list.

The list, published in The Cats’ Pause 2022 Kentucky Football Yearbook, features at least one player from each Class 3A, District 8 team.

Barnett is among the top athletes in the state. Ranking as Magoffin County’s top target, Barnett hauled in 25 receptions for 756 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games during the 2021 high school football season.

Contributing as a passer, Barnett completed two passes for 76 yards and one touchdown.

Delivering on the ground for Magoffin County during the 2021 season, Barnett rushed 24 times for 243 yards and five touchdowns.

Barnett led the Hornets in scoring during the 2021 season, averaging 14.5 points per game.

Defensively, Barnett chipped in 10 tackles and one interception.

Lafferty was among the defensive leaders for Magoffin County as a junior, recording 59 tackles, 12 tackles for a loss and eight sacks in 10 games.

Making an impact both defensively and offensively in 2021, Lafferty rushed 33 times for 162 yards and two touchdowns. Lafferty, who holds multiple college football offers, scored a team-high eight two-point conversions for

Magoffin County during the 2021 season.

Magoffin County will take the field for its season opener at Breathitt County on Friday, Aug. 19.
