Barnett leads Magoffin County over Shelby Valley

SALYERSVILLE — Aden Barnett scored 32 points and secured seven rebounds to lead Magoffin County over visiting Shelby Valley 71-58 on Friday, Dec. 15.

Magoffin County notched its third straight win. After registering the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-2.

Magoffin County shot 50 percent (24-of-48) from the field. The Hornets made five of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County shot 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free throw line.

Dominating inside, Magoffin County outrebounded Shelby Valley 35-21.

Following Barnett in scoring for the Hornets, Grayson Whitaker netted 18 points.

Recording a double-double for Magoffin County, Walker Russell scored 12 points and claimed 10 rebounds.

Nearly logging a double-double, Zane Whitaker provided nine points and 10 rebounds for the Hornets.

Shelby Valley, which slipped to 3-3 after suffering the loss, shot 44.4 percent (24-of-54) from the field. The Wildcats connected on nine of 22 three-point field goal attempts.

Limited at the line, Shelby Valley made one of two free throw attempts in the matchup.

Robert Stewart scored 22 points to lead the Wildcats. Stewart made six of eight three-point field goal attempts.

Joining Stewart in double figures for the Wildcats, Ethan Sykes scored 12 points and Caden Johnson netted 11 points.

Shelby Valley received scoring from seven different players. The additional scorers for Shelby Valley were Riley Phillips (six points), Jonah Bartley (four points), Logan Johnson (two points) and Caden Justice (one point).

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Shelby Valley for a late-season game on Feb. 16, 2024.
