SALYERSVILLE – Breathitt County battled back from behind to edge visiting Magoffin County 4-3 in an early-season high school softball game on Tuesday, March 30.

Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-2.

With the win, Breathitt County moved to 2-0.

Breathitt County outhit Magoffin County 9-4 and overcame three errors to claim the victory.

In the circle, Breathitt County pitcher Christina Butler earned the win. Butler allowed four hits and three runs over six and a third innings, striking out two.

Contributing in the circle for Breathitt County, Catlin Pennington threw two-thirds of an inning in relief.

Magoffin County pitcher Holly Handshoe suffered the loss.

Handshoe surrendered two runs on eight hits over five innings, striking out five.

Butler, Maddie Haddix and Jacey McClees each collected multiple hits for Breathitt County in the win. Butler went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Breathitt County’s offensive attack.

Handshoe, Presley Smith, Jaden Williams and Katie Howard collected one hit apiece for Magoffin County in the loss. Howard drove in two of Magoffin County’s three runs.

Williams doubled for the Lady Hornets in the setback.
Defensively, Magoffin County committed only one error.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Breathitt County on April 26.

The Lady Hornets were slated to visit Prestonsburg on Wednesday, March 31, weather permitting.
