BURN BAN

SALYERSVILLE – As of press time on Wednesday, November 8, Magoffin County is under a burn ban.

Magoffin County Judge/Executive Matthew Wireman issued an executive order on Wednesday, banning all outdoor burning in Magoffin County until further notice:

Whereas, due to current and predicated weather conditions and the extraordinary danger of forest fires, an immediate ban on all open burning in Magoffin County is essential for the health, welfare, and property of citizens of Magoffin County.

Now, Therefore, I, Matthew C. Wireman, Magoffin County Judge/Executive, by the virtue of the powers and authorities vested in me as Judge/Executive by the Constitution and the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, It is Hereby Ordered as follows;

1. All outdoor burning in Magoffin County is prohibited under authority of KRS 149.401.

2. This ban shall remain in full force and effect until lifted or modified by further order of the undersigned Magoffin County Judge/Executive.

Witness my hand this 8th day of November, 2023.

Honorable Matthew C. Wireman
Magoffin County Judge/Executive

The burn ban comes as multiple fires continue to burn throughout the county, including on Trace Fork, Straight Fork, State Road near Painters Lick and Mash Fork. Mutual aid from David had to be called in for the fire on Straight Fork. As of press time there are chances for rain on Thursday and Friday, but it is unclear whether it will be enough to end the wildfire threat in the area.
