Community Day one month away

SALYERSVILLE – The lineup for this year’s Community Day was announced this week, with one month until the big day, slated for Saturday, August 21.

Last year, what would have been the 17th Community Day had to be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the Community Foundation opting for a virtual fundraiser, instead. While over $73,000 was raised for local nonprofit groups last year, Scotty B. Patrick, chairman of the Magoffin County Community Foundation Board, told the Independent earlier this year they are excited to get back to their usual format, with an all-day event at the park, complete with music, games and great food.

On Tuesday, the Magoffin County Community Foundation released a flyer announcing this year’s entertainment lineup, featuring the Caleb Daughtery Band, Ralph Stanley II and The Clinch Mt. Boys, Rhonda Vincent and The Rage, Hammertowne, Lennie Centers and Centerline, Blackpowder Express, as well as the True Gospel Echoes and Project Echo kids.

For the past 17 years, Magoffin County Community Day has been instrumental in helping local nonprofits and civic groups raise funds for the countless good things they do in the community, raising over $1.3 million in total since it began. Community Day usually brings in approximately $80,000 to $85,000 each year for local nonprofits.

This year’s Magoffin County Community Day is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, August 21, at Ramey Memorial Park, with tickets priced at $10.
