SALYERSVILLE – Senior Holly Handshoe and freshman Jaden Williams split time in the circle at the pitcher position for Magoffin County during the 2021 high school softball season.

A pair of experienced high school softball pitchers, Handshoe and Williams were a talented tandem for former 15th Region champion Magoffin County.

Combined, Handshoe and Williams threw three shutouts during the 2021 high school softball season.

Handshoe appeared in 16 games for the Hornets, logging 14 starts. Over 80.1 innings, Handshoe allowed 86 runs on 97 hits while giving up 29 walks and recording 80 strikeouts. The Magoffin County senior compiled a 6-7 record and a 3.57 ERA.

Williams appeared in 14 games for the Hornets, logging 13 starts. Over 71.2 innings, Williams allowed 51 runs on 65 hits while giving up 21 walks and recording 88 strikeouts. The Magoffin County freshman compiled an 8-6 record and a 1.95 ERA.

Handshoe and Williams helped Magoffin County win two or more consecutive games on four separate occasions during the 2021 season.

As a team, Magoffin County compiled a winning record during its latest campaign. The Hornets concluded the 2021 season 14-13 following a loss to rival Paintsville in the semifinals of the 57th District Softball Tournament. Paintsville defeated Magoffin County, which hosted the 57th District Softball Tournament, 8-5.
