Hornets beat Bellevue for third straight win

BELLEVUE – Remaining undefeated in the 2021 high school football season, visiting Magoffin County beat Bellevue 40-14 on Friday, Sept. 10.

After notching the win, Magoffin County moved to 3-0.

Following the loss, Bellevue dropped to 0-4.

Magoffin County moved ahead early and forced Bellevue to play from behind throughout the high school football game.

The Hornets gradually pulled away to win convincingly. Magoffin County led 34-7 at halftime.

The Hornets rushed 42 times for 259 yards and four touchdowns in the win.

Sophomore Adan Barnett led Magoffin County to the win. Barnett rushed eight times for 152 yards and four touchdowns. Through the air, Barnett completed one of five passes for a 62-yard touchdown.

Contributing on the ground for Magoffin County, Ben Lafferty rushed seven times for 73 yards.

Seven different Magoffin County players rushed for positive yardage in the convincing victory.

Brad Standifer was on the receiving end of Barnett’s scoring pass.

Lafferty led the Hornets’ defensive effort, recording 10 tackles. Aiding Magoffin County on the defensive side, Standifer, Curtis Jenkins, Donivan Patrick and Ian McCarty logged five tackles apiece.

Bellevue was limited offensively throughout the game. Quarterback Logan Allen paced the Tigers, rushing 11 times for 56 yards and one touchdown.

Returning to the road, Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Lawrence County for its Class 3A, District 8 opener on Friday, Sept. 17.
