Hornets capture EKMC A-Team Championship

WHITESBURG — Magoffin County (Herald Whitaker Middle School) pulled away to defeat Letcher County 36-8 in the EKMC A-Team Championship Game on Saturday, Oct. 12.

The Hornets won convincingly in the conference championship game after defeating Fleming-Neon during the semifinals of the middle school football tournament. Magoffin County compiled a 5-0 conference record during the regular season.

“These young men have worked extremely hard this whole season and to say I’m proud of each and every one of them is an understatement,” Magoffin County A-Team Coach Nathan Perkins said, following his team’s conference championship-clinching win. “This is an amazing group of young men.”

The Hornets are preparing to compete in the Kentucky Middle School Football Association Playoffs. Magoffin County is a third seed in the KYMSFA 8th Grade Division 3 Playoffs and will meet second seed Hazard on either Thursday, Oct. 24 or Saturday, Oct. 26.

B-Team: Magoffin County finished runner-up in the EKMC B-Team Tournament. Magoffin County received a number one seed for the KYMSFA 6th Grade Playoffs.
