William Clayton Gardner

William Clayton Gardner, age 75 of West Lick Branch in Salyersville, Kentucky passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025, at U.K. Saint Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Kentucky after battling a long illness.

Clayton was born August 30, 1949 on West Lick Branch in Salyersville, Kentucky the son of the late Carlos Hager and Bonnie Clemons Gardner, the youngest of five siblings. Daughter, Vanessa Gardner, brother, Clifford Gardner, sisters, Lorean Hamilton and Josephine Bays, also preceded in death.

Clayton worked many jobs in his life from drilling for the coal mines, driving rock trucks, dozers, loaders, working at Continental Conveyor to driving a school bus. However, the role he took most pride in was raising his little family. Clayton enjoyed farming and hunting as well. He gained many friends and acquaintances through the sport and not much beat a good hunt with them.

Clayton was always a strong man and demonstrated that strength up to his last breath. Though Clayton had been sick many years and unable to do much physically, he still was valuable part of his family. His strong will and the love he had for his family made that possible through God’s help. Clayton’s biggest accomplishment was giving his life to the Lord and serving Him.

Those left to mourn includes wife, Pauline Crum Gardner, whom he married June 14, 1969, daughter, Angela Burchett and husband James of Salyersville, Kentucky, granddaughter, Delana Brickey of Morehead, Kentucky, grandson, Landen Brickey of Salyersville, Kentucky, brother, Richard Clemons and wife Yvonne of Plain City, Ohio, a host of family and friends who love and miss him.

Funeral services for William Clayton Gardner were conducted Wednesday, April 16, 2025, from the chapel of the Salyersville Funeral Home. Ministers, Bud Crum, Larry Patrick, and Dallas Patrick delivered comforting words on the day of service. Interment followed in the Clayton Gardner Cemetery on West Lick Branch in Salyersville, Kentucky.
