SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is making strides in the 2024 high school football preseason.
The Hornets carried momentum into August.
The July portion of the 2024 high school football preseason consisted of the Hornets competing against various area teams in 7-on-7 sessions and making multiple trips to Morehead State University for events.
Magoffin County will host Harlan County for its first scrimmage in the 2024 high school football preseason on Saturday, Aug. 10.
“We were able to get in four to five good sessions of 7-on-7 over the past few weeks,” said Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett. “The events at Morehead State were good because our offensive linemen/defensive linemen got in great work in front of college coaches. We have a couple of players going on college visits based on their performances. Benny Rudd went to Hanover College on Sunday. It is all about getting work in and being persistent with your efforts every day that you are on the field or in the weight room.
“We will host Harlan County for a scrimmage at home on Saturday, Aug. 10, so every rep is important. I like this team and how it is coming around. We had a spirited practice on Monday night and our players are getting better. We’ve got to stack those kinds of days back-to-back. We have 10 varsity and 10 junior varsity games scheduled. We would like to get more players out that worked out with us over the offseason or new players. There are lots of opportunities for players to show their skills. School starts up right before the scrimmage, so it is a hectic and exciting time for our football program. I want to thank all of the parents, boosters and community that made our summer work special for the players. It is much appreciated.”
Magoffin County continues to conduct preseason practices in preparation for its upcoming campaign.
