Hornets defeat Floyd Central in season opener, 6-1

Magoffin County notched a win in a 2021 high school baseball season opener, upending host Floyd Central 6-1 on Tuesday, March 30.

EASTERN – Magoffin County notched a win in a 2021 high school baseball season opener, upending host Floyd Central 6-1 on Tuesday, March 30.

First-year head coach Jacob Litteral won in his debut for the Hornets.

Floyd Central lost despite outhitting Magoffin County 5-4.

Magoffin County made the most of its offensive opportunities and excelled in the field. Defensively, Magoffin County turned in an error-free performance.

Magoffin County senior pitcher Lucas Litteral earned the win on the mound. Lucas Litteral pitched five innings, allowing zero runs on three hits while striking out 10 and walking zero.

Working from relief roles, Colin Litteral and Kaden Bowling entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close the matchup.

Floyd Central senior pitcher Caleb Hager suffered the loss. Hager allowed one hit and two runs over two innings, striking out three.

Trenton Coleman went 2-for-4 at the plate and delivered a pair of RBIs to lead Magoffin County offensively.

Following Coleman Kaden Back and Ian Prewitt connected for one hit apiece in the Hornets’ winning effort. Lucas Litteral and Back drove in one run apiece for the Hornets.

Hager and Jacob Bentley paced Floyd Central at the plate, collecting two hits apiece for the Jaguar.

Floyd Central committed one error in the high school baseball season opener.

The Hornets are scheduled to host Floyd Central on April 22.
