Hornets defeat Morgan County for first win in 2021 season

SALYERSVILLE – Breaking into the win column for the first time in the 2021 high school volleyball season, Magoffin County shut out border rival Morgan County 3-0 on Monday, Sept. 20.

Magoffin County and Morgan County are rivals from neighboring regions.

The Hornets defeated visiting Morgan County 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.

Makenna Jordan (5 kills, 7 digs, 6 service aces), Lauryn Whitaker (5 kills, 1 dig, 1 service ace), McKenzie Young (5 kills, 1 assist, 1 dig, 7 service aces), Isabella Dunn (3 kills, 10 assists, 15 digs, 3 service aces), Carley Allen (3 kills, 1 dig, 4 service aces), Jaden Williams (2 kills, 9 assists, 11 digs, 3 service aces), Nora Howard (2 kills, 11 digs), Maddie Auxier (4 assists, 5 digs), Mackenzie Bailey (11 digs, 3 service aces) and Avery Preston (2 digs) contributed for Magoffin County in the shutout win over rival Morgan County.

Magoffin County (15th Region) and Morgan County (16th Region) met for the second time in the 2021 high school volleyball season.

The Cougars shut out the Hornets 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-15) in a match in nearby West Liberty early in the season on Thursday, Aug. 19.

Magoffin County was hosting 14th Region member Jackson City on Wednesday, Sept, 22. Results from the Magoffin County-Jackson City volleyball match were unavailable at press time.
