Hornets edge Belfry, 1-0

Returning to the win column following back-to-back losses, visiting Magoffin County edged Belfry 1-0 in 10 innings in a high school baseball game on Monday, April 5.

BELFRY – Returning to the win column following back-to-back losses, visiting Magoffin County edged Belfry 1-0 in 10 innings in a high school baseball game on Monday, April 5.

The Hornets returned to the win column after dropping games to Knott County Central and Breathitt County during the opening week of the 2021 high school baseball season.

Magoffin County dealt 15th Region rival Belfry its second straight loss.

The Hornets outhit the Pirates 5-3.

Lucas Literal started on the mound for the Hornets. Litteral allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 13 and walking one.

Both Trenton Coleman and Ethan Prewitt pitched in relief for the Hornets. Coleman claimed the win.

Wyatt Webb started on the mound for the Pirates. Webb pitched four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out seven.

Parker Hall and Chase Justice pitched out of relief roles for Belfry, tossing five innings and one inning, respectively.

Coleman paced Magoffin County at the plate, finishing 2-for-5.

Contributing offensively for Magoffin County, Litteral, Caleb Howard and Ethan Salyer added one hit apiece in the victory. Literal doubled for the Hornets.

Ashton Deskins, Tyler Slone and Jonathan Banks collected one hit apiece for homestanding Belfry (2-3).

Defensively, each team committed one error.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host Belfry for a late-season matchup on May 24.
