SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County entered the week 7-6 overall in the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.
Past the midway point in the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball regular season, Magoffin County has knocked off both reigning 15th Region champion Martin County and title contender Shelby Valley.
After opening the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season 0-2, Magoffin County has won seven of its last 11 games.
Under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, Magoffin County has notched wins over Rose Hill Christan, Floyd Central, Shelby Valley, Fairview, Letcher County Central, Prestonsburg and Martin County.
The Hornets have suffered losses to Pike County Central, West Carter, Johnson Central, Paintsville and Shelby Valley.
Magoffin County dropped its annual regular season series to longtime rival Johnson Central.
The Hornets claimed a key 57th District win on Saturday, Feb. 13, outlasting visiting Martin County 66-64.
Currently, Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Paintsville, Pikeville, Martin County, Perry County Central, Floyd Central, Prestonsburg, Lawrence County and Pike County Central. The Hornets’ remaining regular season schedule is subject to change due to COVID and the weather.
Magoffin County is slated to enter the postseason in March.
