SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County finished four games above .500 in the 2021 high school baseball season, compiling a 16-12 record.
The Hornets compiled the seventh-best record among 15th Region baseball teams in the 2021 season.
Magoffin County put together a five-game win streak during the second half of the 2021 season and made a late push. Under the direction of head coach Jacob Litteral, Magoffin County won nine of its last 14 games.
Offensively, Trent Coleman, Lucas Litteral, Caleb Howard, Ethan Salyer, Ian Prewitt, Colin Litteral, Kaden Back, Caleb Wilson, Grant Rudd and Kaden Bowling made the largest impacts at the plate for the Hornets.
Magoffin County outscored opponents 183-176 in the 2021 season.
Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County on the mound, appearing in 14 games while logging 11 starts.
One of the most underrated high school baseball pitchers in Eastern Kentucky, Lucas Litteral compiled a 6-2 record and a 2.01 ERA. Lucas Litteral registered a team-high 121 strikeouts and notched one save during the 2021 season.
Tied for second in wins for the Hornets, Ethan Prewitt and Colin Litteral each won three games.
Eventual 15th Region champion Johnson Central ended Magoffin County’s latest season, shutting out the Hornets 6-0 in the 57th District Baseball Tournament Semifinals.
Looking ahead, Magoffin County is poised to return several experienced players for the 2022 high school baseball season.
