Hornets headed to Lawrence County for Class 3A Playoffs

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is set to visit Lawrence County for the first round of the KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 5.

The Hornets and Bulldogs will meet for a rematch of a Class 3A, District 8 regular season game.

Lawrence County pulled away to defeat Magoffin County 43-13 in a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 27.

Magoffin County ended the regular season 6-3 overall and 2-2 in Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have posted wins over Prestonsburg, Knott County Central, Bellevue, Floyd Central, Pike County Central and Morgan County. The Hornets have suffered losses to Lawrence County, Belfry and Clay County.

Magoffin County is averaging over 152.5 passing yards per game.

The Hornets are averaging 101.3 rushing yards per matchup.

Lawrence County concluded the regular season 7-3 overall and 3-1 in Class 3A, District 8. The Bulldogs have notched wins over Magoffin County, Harrison County, Greenup County, Russell, Boyd County, Pike County Central and Floyd Central. Lawrence County has dropped games to East Carter, Belfry and Raceland.

Lawrence County excels in rushing, averaging 220.5 yards and 3.5 touchdowns on the ground per game.

Four different Lawrence County players have rushed for 500 or more yards.

The additional teams slated to compete in the Class 3A Playoffs are Union County, Webster County, Paducah Tilghman, Trigg County, Glasgow, Hart County, Taylor County, Adair County, Bardstown, Thomas Nelson, Elizabethtown, LaRue County, Christian Academy-Louisville, Henry County, Mercer County, DeSales, Bell County, Estill County, Rockcastle County, Garrard County, Fleming County, Lewis County, Mason County, Powell County, East Carter, Greenup County, Russell, Ashland, Belfry and Pike County Central.

Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Lawrence County game is set for 7:30 p.m. in Louisa.
