WEST LIBERTY — Magoffin County knocked off rival Morgan County 66-48 in a boys’ high school basketball game on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
The Hornets defeated Morgan County for the second time in the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season.
Magoffin County gradually pulled away for the win. The Hornets moved ahead early and ultimately won convincingly.
Excelling offensively, Magoffin County shot 57.8 percent (26-of-45) from the field in the win. The Hornets shot 40 percent (four-of-10) from three-point range.
Magoffin County shot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free throw line.
The Hornets outrebounded the Cougars 24-19.
Zane Whitaker scored 19 points to lead Magoffin County to the victory.
Delivering a double-double for the Hornets, Aden Barnett scored 11 points and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Accompanying Whitaker and Barnett in double figures for Magoffin County, Ethan Salyer netted 10 points.
Magoffin County featured 10 different scorers in the win.
Chipping in offensively, Ben Lafferty (seven points), Grayson Whitaker (six points), Walker Russell (four points), Spencer Howard (three points), Noah Sammons (three points), Case Adkins (two points) and Reed Meadows (one point) provided the Hornets’ additional scoring.
Morgan County shot 38.6 percent (17-of-44) from the field in the boys’ high school basketball game. The Cougars shot 40 percent (six-of-15) from three-point range,
Morgan County shot 61.5 percent (eight-of-13) from the free throw line.
Preston Hoskins poured in a game-high 32 points to lead the Cougars. Hoskins was the only Morgan County player to reach double figures in scoring.
In addition to Hoskins, Morgan County received scoring from Logan Spencer (eight points), Drew Lindon (three points), Connor Salyer (three points) and Allen Justice (two points).
