Hornets on bye week

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County has the week of Friday, Oct. 13 open.

The Hornets are looking to finish strong in the 2023 high school football regular season and build momentum for the Class 3A State Playoffs.

Magoffin County is 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Class 3A, District 8. The Hornets have notched wins over Martin County and Powell County.

Magoffin County has dropped games to Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Russell, Belfry and Lawrence County.

John DeRossett-coached Magoffin County has shown improvement over the past month-plus. Magoffin County has won two of its last four games. The Hornets managed to double up Powell County 50-25 in a key Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Sept. 29.

Magoffin County has regular season games remaining versus Class 3A, District 8 opponent Estill County and longtime rival Morgan County.

The Hornets resumed practice earlier in the week. Magoffin County continues to prepare for its next opponent in the 2023 high school football season.

The Hornets are scheduled to visit Estill County for a Class 3A, District 8 game on Friday, Oct. 20.
