Hornets outlast Morgan County, 40-34

WEST LIBERTY — Visiting Magoffin County outlasted Morgan County 40-34 to return to the win column on Friday, Oct. 28.

After registering the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-6

Morgan County dropped to 1-9 after suffering the loss.

Magoffin County dealt rival Morgan County its seventh straight loss in the 2022 high school football season.

The Hornets and Cougars battled throughout the non-district game.

Curtis Jenkins led Magoffin County to the win. Jenkins, who leads the Hornets defensively, continued to make an impact on the offensive side late in the 2022 high school football season. The productive Jenkins rushed for 238 yards and four touchdowns. On the defensive side, Jenkins recorded 12 tackles.

Making an impact on the varsity level during his young career, freshman Dason Burchett settled in at quarterback for the Hornets. Burchett made the start at quarterback for Class 3A, District 8 member Magoffin County.

Ben Lafferty, Ian McCarty and Garrett Jenkins aided Magoffin County’s attack in the victory over Morgan County.

The Hornets are preparing to compete in the postseason. Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Class 3A, District 7 champion Ashland for the first round of the 2022 Class 3A UK HealthCare Sports Medicine State Football Finals on Friday, Nov. 4.
