Hornets scheduled to tip off season at Pike Central

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to tip off the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season at Pike County Central on Tuesday, Jan. 5.

The Hornets and Hawks are 15th Region rivals.

The KHSAA Board of Control postponed the start of winter sports to Monday, Jan. 4 during a meeting held in November.

Coach Scott Castle guides the Hornets. Magoffin County ended the 2019-20 boys’ high school basketball season 15-15.

After making a move from 16th Region member Greenup County and replacing Ryan Whitaker, Robert Amis is preparing to guide Pike County Central. The Hawks concluded the 2019-20 boys’ high school basketball season 8-21.

Magoffin County and Pike County Central met three times during the 2019-20 boys’ high school basketball season. The Hornets won two of the three games.

In addition to Pike County Central, opponents on Magoffin County’s 2020-21 schedule include Morgan County, Jenkins, Floyd Central, Johnson Central, East Ridge, Prestonsburg, Paintsville, Belfry, Shelby Valley, Martin County, Letcher County Central and Pikeville.

The Hornets are slated to resume preseason practice later in the month.
