SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is slated to visit 15th Region rival Floyd Central for an opener in the 2021 high school baseball season on Tuesday, March 30.
First-year head coach Jacob Litteral is poised to guide the Hornets in a much anticipated debut campaign.
Litteral was named the head coach of Magoffin County following the 2019 high school baseball season. Due to COVID-19 forcing the 2020 high school baseball season to be canceled, Litteral has been unable to make his debut previously.
Litteral replaced Steve Miller as Magoffin County head coach.
High school baseball teams throughout the state are preparing for season openers.
Magoffin County competes with Johnson Central, Martin County and Paintsville in the 57th District. The Hornets exited the 2019 season 4-19 following a loss to perennial 15th Region title contender Johnson Central in the 57th District Baseball Tournament.
First pitch for the Magoffin County-Floyd Central baseball game is set for 6 p.m.
Magoffin County’s 2021 schedule includes games versus Floyd Central, Johnson Central, Martin County, Paintsville, Knott County Central, Breathitt County, Belfry, Morgan County, Betsy Layne, Phelps, Letcher County Central, Menifee County, Shelby Valley and Robertson County.
The Hornets are due to host 14th Region member Knott County Central for a home opener on Wednesday, March 31.
Magoffin County is scheduled to face Phelps and homestanding Letcher County Central in the Kentucky Farm Bureau Classic on Saturday, April 17.
The Hornets are matched up against Martin County in a non-district game as part of the StoneCrest Baseball Classic in Prestonsburg on Friday, April 30.
