Hornets suffer shutout loss to JC, conclude season 16-12

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County was held scoreless as Johnson Central pulled away to win 6-0 in the semifinals of the 57th District Baseball Tournament on Sunday, May 30.

The loss eliminated Magoffin County from the high school baseball postseason. Magoffin County exited the 2021 high school baseball season 16-12.

Following the win, Johnson Central advanced to the 57th District Baseball Tournament title game. With the win, Johnson Central improved to 22-13.

Connor Lemaster earned the win on the mound for the Golden Eagles. Lemaster pitched a complete game shutout, allowing five hits and giving up two walks while recording 12 strikeouts and holding the Hornets scoreless.

Lucas Literal took the pitching loss for the Hornets. Litteral pitched five and one-third innings, allowing six runs on eight hits while giving up five walks and recording 10 strikeouts.

Ethan Prewitt made a relief appearance, closing the district tournament game out on the mound for the Hornets.
Johnson Central plated six runs on eight hits.

Ryan Sartin-Slone led Johnson Central at the plate, finishing 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Collecting an extra-base hit for the Golden Eagles, Sartin-Slone doubled.

Contributing offensively for Johnson Central, Lemaster, Matt Crum, Keygan Pelfrey, Brock Butcher and Chandler Spradlin added one hit apiece. Crum drove in one run for the Golden Eagles.

Ethan Salyer led Magoffin County’s offensive effort, recording two hits for the Hornets.

Chipping in offensively for Magoffin County, Trent Coleman, Kaden Back and Grant Rudd added one hit apiece.
