Hornets to host Menifee County for season opener

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to host Menifee County for its opener in the 2023 high school baseball season on Monday, March 13.

Several experienced players are back for 15th Region member Magoffin County. However, Magoffin County lost talented left-handed pitcher Lucas Litteral to graduation.

Magoffin County and Menifee County are rivals from bordering regions. Menifee County competes in the bordering 16th Region.

Following a loss to Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Baseball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2022 season 7-23.

After falling to Rowan County in the semifinals of the 61st District Baseball Tournament, Menifee County exited the 2022 season 3-22.

The Hornets and Wildcats did not meet during the 2022 season.

In addition to Menifee County, Magoffin County has regular season games scheduled versus Betsy Layne, Pike County Central, Bath County, Breathitt County, Floyd Central, Frankfort, Scott, Shelby Valley, Knott County Central, Buckhorn, Prestonsburg, Phelps, Lawrence County, Leslie County, Martin County, Jackson City, Johnson Central, East Ridge, Paintsville, Model and Powell County.

First pitch for the Magoffin County-Menifee County baseball game is set for 6 p.m.
