Hornets to open season versus Floyd Central

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is set to face 15th Region rival Floyd Central in a season opener as part of the 15th Region Lead-Off Classic on Monday, March 14.

First pitch for the Magoffin County-Floyd Central baseball game is set for 7:30 p.m..

Magoffin County notched a pair of wins over Floyd Central, a foe from the neighboring 58th District, during the 2021 high school baseball season.

The Hornets defeated the Jaguars 6-1 in a season opener on March 30, 2021.

Claiming a shutout win over Floyd Central on April 22, 2021, 57th District member Magoffin County prevailed 2-0.

Head coach Jacob Litteral guides the Hornets. Under Litteral’s guidance, Magoffin County compiled a winning record in 2021. Following a loss to Johnson Central in the semifinals of the 57th District Baseball Tournament, Magoffin County exited the 2021 high school baseball season 16-12.

Head coach Shawn Hager guides the Jaguars. Floyd Central concluded the 2021 high school baseball season 13-19. The Jaguars finished as the 58th District Runner-up and made an appearance in the 15th Region Softball Tournament in 2021.

Later in the upcoming prep baseball campaign, Magoffin County is scheduled to face Floyd Central in a two-game series May 2-3.

Magoffin County’s 2022 schedule includes games versus Floyd Central, Elliott County, Lawrence County, Powell County, Shelby Valley, Betsy Layne, Frankfort, Morgan County, Knott County Central, Perry County Central, Belfry, Breathitt County, Pike County Central, Johnson Central, Bath County, Martin County, Morgan County, Paintsville, Bluegrass United, Leslie County and North Laurel.
