SALYERSVILLE — Preparing for the 2025 high school football season, Magoffin County will start its afterschool program on Monday, Jan. 6, 2025.
Magoffin County resumed in-school conditioning following the conclusion of its 2024 campaign.
“We have already started back with our in-school conditioning, just like we always do,” said Magoffin County Coach John DeRossett. “We will start back our afterschool program on Monday, Jan. 6. We continue to focus on getting bigger, faster and stronger. Our senior class that just played is a great example of what hard work in the offseason does. That group was dedicated and got so much stronger and faster over their time here. Some are coming back in January to work with our guys. I expect that we will have a big turnout. I have 90 students in class and many of them have committed to playing football in 2025. We are excited and ready to keep the process in motion for the future Hornets on Magoffin Mountain.”
Throughout DeRossett’s tenure as head coach, Magoffin County has made strides via conditioning programs. DeRossett concluded his third season as the Hornets’ head coach at the start of the month.
Magoffin County exited the 2024 high school football season in the win column. The Hornets defeated rival Morgan County 41-18 in a regular season finale on Friday, Nov. 1.
