Hornets to visit Paintsville for 57th District opener

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Paintsville for its 57th District opener in the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season on Friday, Dec. 16.

The Hornets are 0-2 after opening the 2022-23 boys’ high school basketball season with back-to-back losses to Perry County Central and Morgan County. Magoffin County hasn’t played since dropping a game to rival Morgan County in West Liberty on Monday, Dec. 5.

A Magoffin County-Floyd Central boys’ basketball game scheduled for Monday, Dec. 12 was canceled.

Paintsville is 2-3. The Tigers have posted wins over Shelby Valley and Belfry. Paintsville has dropped games to Prestonsburg, Lewis County and Pike County Central.

Magoffin County is scheduled to compete in the Smoky Mountain Christmas Classic and the Mountain Schoolboy Classic later in the month.

Following the conclusion of the 2022-23 regular season, both Magoffin County and Paintsville will compete in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament in February.

Paintsville is scheduled to host Martin County for a 57th District girls’ basketball game at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 16.

Tip-off for the upcoming Magoffin County-Paintsville boys’ basketball game is set for 8 p.m.
