SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to conclude the 2021 high school football preseason on the road at Rowan County on Friday, Aug. 13.

Four different teams are slated to compete in a Rowan County-hosted preseason high school football event.

Magoffin County, Rowan County, Estill County and Mason County will meet up in Morehead for a final preseason outing in mid-August.

Following a loss to state title contender Belfry in the first round of the Class 3A Playoffs, Magoffin County ended the 2020 season 3-4. The Hornets compete with Belfry, Floyd Central, Lawrence County and Pike County Central in Class 3A, District 8.

After a COVID cancellation in the opening round of the Class 4A Playoffs, Rowan County concluded the 2020 season 4-4. The Vikings compete with Boyd County, Harrison County, Holmes and Scott in Class 4A, District 6.

Estill County, limited due to COVID, compiled a 2-2 record and missed out on advancing to the 2020 Class 3A Playoffs. The Engineers compete with Bell County, Garrard County, Jackson County, McCreary Central and Rockcastle County in Class 3A, District 5.

Mason County put together a 4-3 record in 2020 but failed to qualify for the Class 3A Playoffs. The Royals compete with Fleming County, Lewis County, Pendleton County and Powell County in Class 3A, District 6.

High school football teams across the state will open preseason practice later in the month.
