CORDIA – Returning to the win column, Magoffin County knocked off host Cordia 47-28 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Monday, Feb. 22.
With the win, Magoffin County improved to 4-13.
Cordia dropped to 2-15 with the loss.
Magoffin County gradually pulled away to win convincingly.
The Lady Hornets owned several leads in the prep hoops matchup.
Magoffin County shot 30.4 percent (17-of-56) from the field.
The Lady Hornets were 4-of-16 (25 percent) from 3-point range.
Magoffin County shot 47.4 percent (9-of-19) from the free throw line.
Haley Barnett led Magoffin County with a double-double, scoring 18 points and hauling in 11 rebounds.
Barnett was the only Magoffin County player to reach double figures in the scoring column.
In addition to Barnett, Kara Risner (eight points), Stephanie Helton (six points), Kennedy Williams (five points), Jaylen McCarty (four points), Abigail Bradley (three points), Karah Lafferty (two points) and Abby Barnett provided scoring for the Lady Hornets.
Along with providing scoring for Magoffin County, Lafferty grabbed nine rebounds.
Struggling offensively, Cordia shot 18.6 percent (8-of-43) from the field. The Lady Lions were 3-of-21 (14.3 percent) from 3-point range.
Cordia shot 40.9 percent (9-of-22) from the free throw line.
Morgan Johnson led Cordia, scoring game-high 22 points for the Lady Lions. Johnson was 3-of-7 from 3-point range.
Four players accounted for all of Cordia’s scoring in the loss.
