Lady Hornets defeat East Ridge, 49-42

LICK CREEK — Landing back in the win column, Magoffin County defeated East Ridge 49-42 in a girls’ high school basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 28.

Magoffin County, which notched its fourth win in the 2022-23 girls’ high school basketball season, shot 30.6 percent (15-of-49) from the field. The Lady Hornets connected on seven of 21 three-point field goals to shoot 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Winning on the road, Magoffin County shot 50 percent (12-of-24) from the free throw line.

Nearly recording a double-double, Karah Lafferty scored 23 points and claimed nine rebounds to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Accompanying Lafferty in double figures for Magoffin County, Kennedy Williams scored 10 points.

Aiding in the win, Emily Sluss (seven points), Abby Barnett (four points), Jaylee Reed (three points) and Macy Williams (two points) accounted for Magoffin County’s additional scoring.

East Ridge shot 32.4 percent (11-of-34) from the field in the matchup. The Lady Warriors shot 31.8 percent (seven-of-22) from three-point range.

East Ridge shot 61.9 percent (13-of-21) from the free throw line.

Olivia Stanley scored 21 points to lead East Ridge in the non-district game. Stanley was the only East Ridge player to reach double figures in scoring.

Madison Adkins (eight points), Kirsten Easterling (seven points), Lauren Mann (three points) and Makenzie Sawyers (three points) followed Stanley in scoring for 59th District member East Ridge.

Easterling paced East Ridge inside, pulling down 10 rebounds.

Magoffin County is scheduled to host East Ridge for a late-season girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Feb. 10.
