SALYERSVILLE — Continuing to win, Magoffin County defeated visiting Elliott County 9-5 on Friday, April 7.
Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Elliott County met for the first time in the 2023 high school softball season.
Magoffin County pitcher Jaden Williams claimed the win in the circle. Williams allowed only one earned run on nine hits. Among the top high school softball players in the 15th Region, Williams recorded seven strikeouts.
Elliott County pitcher Claire Whitley was stuck with the loss. Whitley, who allowed six earned runs on nine hits over six innings, recorded 11 strikeouts.
Efficient, Magoffin County plated nine runs on nine hits. Williams led Magoffin County at the plate, finishing two-for-four with a home run, a double and four RBIs.
Makenna Jordan (two hits, one RBI), Rylie Castle (two hits), Katie Carty (one hit, two RBIs), Jaylynn Lafferty (one hit, one RBI) and Katie Howard (one hit) followed Williams’ leading performance in Magoffin County’s offensive attack.
Supplying an extra-base hit, Castle doubled for Magoffin County in the win.
Whitley (two hits), Dayna Whiddon-Bennett (two hits, one RBI), Skylar Copley (one hit, one RBI), Lily McDaniels (one hit), Kailey McDaniel (one hit), Hanah McDaniel (one hit) and Kristen Casto (one hit) each contributed at the plate for Elliott County in the high school softball game.
Magoffin County is scheduled to host Elliott County in the second half of the 2023 high school softball season on Wednesday, May 10.
