SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County pulled away to defeat Belfry 51-41 in an early-season girls’ high school basketball game on Friday, Dec. 5.
The win allowed Magoffin County to even its record to 1-1.
Magoffin County made 17 field goal attempts, five of which were three-pointers. The Lady Hornets connected on 12 of 21 free throw attempts, shooting 57.1 percent from the foul line.
Bella Trusty led Magoffin County to the win. Trusty nearly recorded a double-double, pouring in a game-high 25 points and clearing out nine rebounds.
Five players accounted for all of Magoffin County’s scoring. Following Trusty in Magoffin County’s scoring column, Abby Barnett and Kelsey Slone netted eight points apiece.
As part of Magoffin County’s winning effort, Jaylee Reed added six points, and Macy Williams contributed four points.
Belfry managed to shoot 42.5 percent (17-of-40) from the field. The Lady Pirates made three of 11 three-point field goal attempts.
Struggling to connect on free throw attempts, Belfry shot only 36.4 percent (four-of-11) from the foul line.
Lexi Mapes paced Belfry with a double-double, scoring 12 points and claiming a game-high 16 rebounds.
Kiera Woolum followed Mapes in Belfry’s scoring column, netting 11 points.
The additional scorers for Belfry were Emma Dixon (seven points), Kami Dillon (five points), Kadence Chapman (two points), Kaylor Thornsbury (two points) and Lillie McCoy (two points).
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Belfry for a late-season game Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026.
