SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County notched its third straight win at the start of the week, beating visiting Breathitt County 13-3 in five innings on Monday, April 26.
Rivals from bordering regions, Magoffin County and Breathitt County met for the second time in the 2021 high school softball season. Breathitt County managed to edge the Hornets 4-3 in an early-season matchup in Jackson on March 30.
However, Magoffin County forced 14th Region member Breathitt County to play from behind throughout the latest matchup.
Jaden Williams claimed the win in the circle for the Hornets. Williams allowed three runs on four hits and one walk while recording six strikeouts over five innings.
Magoffin County plated 13 runs on 16 hits in the victory.
Williams (2-for-4, four RBIs), Katie Howard (4-for-4, five RBIs), Holly Handshoe (2-for-4, two RBIs), Jaylynn Lafferty (2-for-2), Emilee Bailey (2-for-3, one RBI), Presley Smith (2-for-2) and Scarlett McCarty (2-for-3) each contributed at the plate for the Hornets.
Howard thrived offensively, delivering a home run, triple and double as she hit for the cycle.
The Hornets dealt Breathitt County its second straight loss.
