OLIVE HILL – Returning to the win column, Magoffin County defeated West Carter 17-2 in four innings in a high school softball game on Thursday, May 6.

Magoffin County secured a lead early in the non-district contest. The Hornets made homestanding West Carter, a former 16th Region title contender, play from behind throughout the high school softball matchup.

Jaden Williams earned the win in the circle for the Hornets. Williams pitched four innings, allowing two runs on two hits while registering eight strikeouts.

Magoffin County used a balanced offensive attack to win convincingly over 16th Region member West Carter. Eight different Magoffin County batters connected for a hit in the victory.

Williams (3-for-4, four RBIs), Emilee Bailey (4-for-4, two RBIs), Presley Smith (2-for-4), Scarlett McCarty (2-for-4, four RBIs), Ashlyn Patrick (2-for-3, two RBIs), Jaylynn Lafferty (1-for-3, two RBIs), Rylie Castle (1-for-3) and Katie Howard (1-for-1, three RBIs) contributed at the plate for visiting Magoffin County.

McCarty, Patrick and Castle each doubled for the Hornets.

Magoffin County and West Carter aren’t scheduled to meet again during the current high school softball season.
