Magoffin County and Bellevue are newfound high school football rivals.

The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Chris Gamble, reached the 2020 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs. After notching wins over Betsy Layne, Martin County and Floyd Central, Magoffin County (Class 3A, District 8) ended the 2020 season 3-4. Belfry beat Magoffin County 54-12 in the opening round of the 2020 KHSAA Class 3A Playoffs.

Bellevue concluded the 2020 high school football season 0-8. The Tigers missed out on advancing to the 2020 Class 1A Playoffs.

Bellevue’s 2020 regular season consisted of losses to Holy Cross (Covington), Gallatin County, Lloyd Memorial, Newport, Dayton, Ludlow, Newport Central Catholic and Holmes. Northern Kentucky-based Bellevue (Class 1A, District 4) is a former title contender.

Magoffin County conducted spring practice sessions earlier in the year. The Hornets have remained active throughout the offseason.

Following the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period, Magoffin County will open preseason practice in July.
