SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County has finished at the .500 mark for the third straight season.

Following back-to-back 15-15 seasons, Magoffin County compiled a 12-12 record during its latest campaign.

The Hornets, under the direction of head coach Scott Castle, notched wins over Rose Hill Christian, Floyd Central, Shelby Valley, Fairview, Letcher County Central, Prestonsburg, Martin County, Lawrence County and Pike County Central.

Magoffin County swept a two-game 57th District regular season series from reigning 15th Region champion Martin County during the 2020-21 boys’ high school basketball season.

The Hornets led rival Paintsville through a half in the 57th District Boys’ Basketball Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday, March 17. However, Paintsville battled back in the second half of the postseason matchup and pulled away to win and advance to the 57th District boys’ basketball title game.

Multiple Magoffin County boys’ basketball players are already making the transition to a spring sport. But the Hornets will return to the hardwood during the offseason, preparing for the next boys’ high school basketball season.

Several experienced players, including leading scorer Aden Barnett, make Magoffin County a talent-heavy team heading into the 2021-22 boys’ high school basketball season. The Hornets pushed for wins throughout the latest prep hoops campaign.

The Magoffin County boys’ basketball program will finalize and release its 2021-22 schedule at a later time.
