Magoffin County drops district opener to Johnson Central

SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County dropped its 57th District opener as Johnson Central pulled away to win 3-0 on Tuesday, Sept. 5.

Johnson Central defeated Magoffin County 25-17, 25-11, 25-11 in the 57th District volleyball match.

Currently, Johnson Central is ranked first in the 15th Region Top 5 Poll, which the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association (KVCA) released on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 0-7 overall.
Johnson Central improved to 11-1 overall after notching the shutout win.

Current 15th Region frontrunner Johnson Central suffered a loss to Ashland in August. Ashland is a contender for the 16th Region volleyball title.

Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Johnson Central are due to meet for another 57th District match in Paintsville on Monday, Sept. 18.

Magoffin County was visiting Jackson City on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

Results from the Magoffin County-Jackson City volleyball match were unavailable at press time.

Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Martin County for a 57th District volleyball match on Thursday, Sept. 7.

The Lady Hornets are scheduled to host reigning 15th Region champion Paintsville for another 57th District volleyball match on Monday, Sept. 11.

Magoffin County has additional regular season matches remaining versus Jackson City, Martin County, Paintsville, Prestonsburg, Robertson County, Menifee County, Nicholas County, East Ridge, June Buchanan, Estill County, Lawrence County, Morgan County, Hazard and Betsy Layne.
