SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County slipped back into loss column as visiting Belfry prevailed 6-3 in a high school softball game on Monday, April 5.
Following the loss, Magoffin County dropped to 1-3.
Belfry improved to 4-1 after claiming the win.
The Hornets scored three runs on eight hits after pulling away to defeat Floyd Central 11-2 in a game on Friday, April 2.
Rylie Castle and Jaden Williams collected two hits apiece for Magoffin County in the setback. Williams drove in two of Magoffin County’s three runs.
Holly Handshoe, Jaylynn Lafferty, Emilee Bailey and Katie Howard added one hit apiece for the Hornets. Bailey drove in Magoffin County’s other run.
Handshoe suffered the loss in the circle for the Hornets, allowing six runs (four earned runs) on eight hits while recording five strikeouts and allowing two walks.
Magoffin County is scheduled to visit Belfry for a late-season high school softball game on May 24.
The Hornets are slated to travel to Betsy Layne for a game on Thursday, April 8. First pitch for the Magoffin County-Betsy Layne matchup is set for 6 p.m.
