JACKSON – Visiting Magoffin County carried a 3-2 lead out of its third plate appearance but faltered as Breathitt County erupted for 11 runs over two at-bats to pull away to win 13-3 in five innings on Saturday, April 3.
Longtime rivals, Magoffin County and Breathitt County met for the first time in the 2021 high school baseball season.
Andrew Combs led Breathitt County to the win. Excelling at the plate, Combs finished 3-for-4 with four RBIs.
Isaac Bellamy earned the win on the mound for the Bobcats.
Bellamy allowed three hits and three runs over five innings while striking out eight.
Kaden Bowling suffered the pitching loss for the Hornets.
Bowling surrendered eight runs on seven hits over four innings while striking out three.
Breathitt County outhit the Hornets 11-3.
Helping his pitching cause at the plate, Bellamy added two hits and one RBI for the Bobcats.
Brady Tincher, who supplied one hit for the Bobcats, recorded two RBIs.
Thriving defensively, Breathitt County finished error-free in the field.
Lucas Litteral led Magoffin County at the plate, delivering two hits in three at-bats.
Kaden Back accounted for Magoffin County’s other hit while Caleb Howard and Ian McCarty recorded one RBI apiece.
Defensively, Magoffin County committed three errors.
The Hornets are scheduled to host Breathitt County for a late-season matchup on May 19.
