Magoffin County notches second straight win

PIPPA PASSES — Magoffin County notched its second straight win over June Buchanan on Monday, Feb. 7, prevailing 55-49.

Visiting Magoffin County faced much more resistance on the road after beating June Buchanan 69-38 in Salyersville five days earlier.

Magoffin County shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the field in the victory. The Lady Hornets connected on four of 17 three-point field goal attempts.

Magoffin County shot 52.9 percent (nine-of-17) from the free throw line.

Thriving inside, Magoffin County outrebounded June Buchanan 46-30.

Logging a double-double, Karah Lafferty scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Magoffin County to the win.

Accompanying Lafferty in double figures and delivering another double-double for the Lady Hornets, Angel Mullis netted 15 points and gathered 11 rebounds.

Magoffin County featured eight different scorers, including Kennedy Williams (eight points), Jaylee Reed (four points), Kara Risner (three points), Abby Barnett (three points), Jaylen McCarty (two points) and Emily Sluss (two points).

June Buchanan shot 33.3 percent (17-of-51) from the field. The Lady Crusaders connected on three of 14 three-point field goal attempts.

June Buchanan shot 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the free throw line.

Riley Likens scored 17 points and hauled down nine rebounds to lead June Buchanan in the high school hoops matchup.

Along with Likens reaching double figures in scoring for June Buchanan, Abby Moore added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Contributing offensively for the Lady Crusaders, Anna Potter provided nine points, Morgan Johnson supplied seven points and Addison Clark finished with five points.
