Magoffin County shows improvement on court

SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County showed improvement during the second half of the 2021 high school volleyball season, recording five wins.

The Hornets, under the direction of Coach Haley Miller, defeated opponents from three different regions during the 2021 high school volleyball season. Magoffin County notched wins over Morgan County, Jackson City, Piarist School and June Buchanan during its latest campaign. The Hornets defeated 15th Region counterpart Piarist School twice during the 2021 high school volleyball season.

Magoffin County, a member of the 57th District (15th Region), exited the 2021 high school volleyball season 5-20.

Lauryn Whitaker (43 kills), Macie Arnett (12 blocks), Maddie Auxier (46 assists), Nora Howard (108 digs) and Makenna Jordan (48 service aces) were among Magoffin County’s leaders during the 2021 high school volleyball season.

Reigning 15th Region champion Paintsville ended Magoffin County’s latest season, defeating the Hornets 3-0 in the semifinals of the 57th District Volleyball Tournament at Martin County High School on Monday, Oct. 18.

The 15th Region Volleyball Tournament is currently behind held at Johnson Central High School.

Magoffin County has turned its focus to the 2022 high school volleyball season. Several experienced players are due back on the court for Magoffin County during the upcoming prep volleyball campaign.
