SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County showed improvement throughout the 2021 high school softball season.

After dropping eight of its first 12 games in the 2021 high school softball season, Magoffin County put together a 10-5 record. Compiling an overall winning record, Magoffin County finished the 2021 season 14-13 and will carry momentum into its next campaign.

The Hornets, under the direction of veteran head coach Tony Skaggs, notched wins over Floyd Central, Betsy Layne, East Ridge, Jackson City, Menifee County, Martin County, Breathitt County, West Carter, Pike County Central, Prestonsburg and Robertson County in the 2021 season.

Magoffin County won three straight games on two separate occasions in the 2021 season and fared well both offensively and defensively. The Hornets outscored opponents 223-137 during the 2021 season.

Magoffin County compiled the sixth-best record among 15th Region teams in the latest prep softball campaign.

As a team, Magoffin County batted .415.

Emilee Bailey, Jaden Williams, Holly Handshoe, Jaylynn Lafferty, Katie Howard, Scarlett McCarty, Presley Smith, Ashlyn Patrick, Rylie Castle and Karah Lafferty each appeared in 20 or more games for the Hornets during the 2021 season.

Magoffin County will finalize and release its schedule for the 2022 high school softball season over the offseason.
