SALYERSVILLE – Magoffin County is scheduled to host Betsy Layne for a high school football scrimmage on Friday, Aug. 6.
The Hornets and Bobcats are familiar rivals.

The Hornets compiled a 3-4 record in 2020, notching wins over Betsy Layne, Martin County and Class 3A, District 8 counterpart Floyd Central.
Magoffin County dropped games to perennial state title contender Belfry, Lawrence County and Pike County Central in 2020. Magoffin County fell to Belfry in the opening round of the 2020 3A Playoffs.

Several Magoffin County football players that weren’t competing in winter and/or spring sports have remained active with workouts throughout the offseason.
Numerous experienced players are headed back to the gridiron for the Magoffin County football team.
The Hornets will open preseason practice later in the month, shortly after the conclusion of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Dead Period.
