SALYERSVILLE — Magoffin County will host former state champion Russell for Homecoming in the first half of the 2024 high school football season.
The Hornets are slated to welcome in the Red Devils for a non-district game on Friday, Sept. 13. Kickoff for the Magoffin County-Russell game is set for 7:30 p.m.
The Hornets and Red Devils met during the first half of the 2023 high school football season. Russell pulled away to defeat visiting Magoffin County 53-14 on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023.
The Hornets and Red Devils are Class 3A rivals.
Magoffin County competes in Class 3A, District 8. Head coach John DeRossett guides the Hornets. Magoffin County compiled a 4-7 record in the 2023 high school football season.
Russell competes in Class 3A, District 6. Head coach TJ Maynard guides the Red Devils.
Russel compiled a 7-5 record in the 2023 high school football season.
Magoffin County has additional regular season games scheduled versus Montgomery County, Lewis County, Leslie County, Martin County, Belfry, Powell County, Lawrence County, Estill County and Morgan County. In addition to Russell, Magoffin County is due to host Lewis County, Lawrence County and Estill County for home games in the 2024 high school football season. The Hornets will kick off the 2024 high school football season at Montgomery County versus the Indians in the Rec Bowl on Saturday, Aug. 24.
