Magoffin County Judge/Executive Donald W. McFarland signed the following proclamation, declaring May 2026 Older Americans Month for Magoffin County:
WHEREAS, Magoffin County includes a growing number of older Americans who contribute their strength, wisdom, and experience to our community; and
WHEREAS, communities benefit when people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds are welcome, included, and supported; and
WHEREAS, Magoffin County recognizes our need to create a community that provides the services and supports older Americans need to thrive and live independently for as long as possible; and
WHEREAS, Magoffin County can work to build an even better community for our older residents by:
-planning programs that encourage independence;
-ensuring activities are responsive to individual needs and preferences;
-increasing access to services that support aging in place.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Donald W. McFarland, Magoffin County Judge/Executive, do hereby proclaim May 2026 to be Older Americans Month. I urge every resident to recognize the contributions of our older citizens, help to create an inclusive society, and join efforts to support older Americans’ choices about how they age in their communities.

I am so happy to see that someone is thinking about our older citizens. There is a great need for services for our older citizens here. There is not much available for them. It seems like everything goes for 4 wheelers, bicycles, & tourism. Yet, we don’t have a Motel.
I guess I will have to be happy that someone is at least thinking about it.
