One flown to hospital after wreck

SALYERSVILLE – A woman was life-flighted out after a two-car collision Thursday morning.

Surveillance videos show that just after 7 a.m. April 21 along Restaurant Row a vehicle run through a redlight, then was speeding through another one when it crashed into the vehicle the Floyd County woman was driving as she was attempting to cross Rt. 114 on her way to work.

According to officials at the scene, the woman was pulling out from the access road that goes by Lee’s Famous Recipe and Dairy Queen at the traffic light, crossing Rt. 114 to get to the access road that travels up to the ARH medical building, where she works, when the black Volvo sedan sped through the light, hitting her vehicle.

The Volvo had a female driver, a male, and a four-year-old child in the vehicle. Officials told Mortimer Media Group the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and, after hitting the other vehicle, it traveled another 200 feet from the impact point, going across the sidewalk and into the parking lot of another Salyersville business.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit was airlifted from the scene, reportedly unconscious upon emergency crews’ arrival. She is now recovering from a head injury sustained in the wreck.

Eyewitnesses told law enforcement the Volvo had already blown through the Catholic Church redlight at a high rate of speed before hitting the victim’s vehicle at the next light. Officials estimate that the vehicle was traveling 70 to 80 miles per hour at the time of the collision.

Kentucky State Police has cited the driver of the Volvo with driving under the influence, as well as for having no insurance on the vehicle. The three occupants of that vehicle were also transported to the hospital via ambulances, though their status is unknown.

Leann Nicole Bleeker, of Salyersville, was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence, first offense, and failure to maintain required vehicle insurance, with arraignment hearings scheduled in two separate traffic cases for May 2 and May 9 in Magoffin County District Court.
